The 19th annual “Guru Madan Lal Koser Award” instituted by Pracheen Kala Kendra for excellence in performing arts was presented at a scintillating function at Tagore Theatre here today. Padmabhushan and Grammy Award winner and Legendary Mohan Veena maestro Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatta was the Chief guest and conferred and award upon Tabla maestros Pt. Vinod Pathak and Sitar Virtuoso Pt. Harvinder Sharma The Governing Body of Pracheen Kala Kendra Sh. S.K. Monga , Chairman, Sh. Sajal Koser, Secretary, Smt. Shobha Koser, Registrar, and other members were also present at the said occasion. Award carrying a cash prize of Rs. 51 thousand ( each), a shawl, a citation and a memento for their lifetime contribution in popularizing Tabla and Sitar respectively in particular and Indian classical music in general.
The award ceremony was followed by the performances of the maestros.
The concert was opened up with Tabla recital Pt. Vinod Pathak . Beginning with traditional starting point Peshkar, he gradually unfolded alap-like elaboration, crisp kaidas with rhythmic variations, complex parans, gat, rela, tihais almost all the different idioms of Tabla playing within the frame of the 16-beat cycle of the tal with tricky numerical permutations and combinations. He also doled out with some crisp brandishes of Legendry Tabla players of Farukhabad Gharana & his Guru. His son and disciple Sh. Wewish Pathak also accompanied him on Tabla. The duo was was well accompanied by Dinkar Dwivedi on Harmonium.

After this Pt. Harvinder Sharma took the centre stage for his melodic Sitar recital. He commenced with Raga Mishra Khamaj with alap, jod-alap followed by jhala which brought out the inner depth of the raga and touching the listener’s heart. As Harvinder Sharma is a disciple of Ustad Vilayat Khan Sahib , so Gayiki ang is very much reflected in his style of sitar playing. He presented sitar with soulful gayiki ang was great rapport to the delight of the listeners. He also presented some crisp brandishes of his Gharana & his Guru . He provided a fitting finale to the concert with melodic Bhatiyali dhun. He was a ble accompanied by Tabla exponent Pt. Ram Kumar Sharma.
